Her articles and essays have appeared in numerous publications and she is the author of two nonfiction books. A member of The International Advisory Board for Holocaust Survivor Day, she is the host of the podcast People of the Book, and the founder of the Facebook group “Jews Love To Read!” She holds a BA from Queens College, an MA from Columbia University, and a doctorate in education from Hofstra University. She and her husband, Stewart, a journalist, live in New York. They have three married sons and six grandchildren.

Kim Salzman was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. After receiving a law degree from the University of Michigan, Kim fulfilled a lifelong dream by immigrating to Israel, where she became fascinated by the stories of Jewish immigrants to Israel from all over the world. In Israel, Kim served in the international law department of the Israel Defense Forces. She also worked for the United Nations Refugee Agency and for an NGO advocating for the legal rights of Ethiopian-Israelis. Before writing Straddling Black and White, Kim traveled to Ethiopia and was deeply moved and intrigued by the heroic immigration of Ethiopian Jewry to Israel. Today, Kim lives in Northern Israel with her husband, three children and dog and works as the Israel and Overseas Director at the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh.
